  • Marching Polar Bears will invade Cajun country on New Year's Day. Jackson High School's "Purple Army" marching band will be part of the 76th annual Allstate Sugar Bowl Classic on Jan. 1. The Cincinnati Bearcats play the Florida Gators. Band Director Thomas Holliday said the band has a long history of being part of the college football bowl season, including three Fiesta Bowl parades and two Rose Bowl parades. This time, they sought a chance to be part of the Sugar Bowl experience in New Orleans, he said.

Protest of Canton Firefighter Layoffs

William Lane - Burn Victim

  • The hair burned from William Lane's head and face during the explosion that claimed his Canton home about three weeks ago is beginning to grow back. Scars are gradually replacing the burns on his arms, hands and wrists. Yet his tears fall as he kneels at the small wooden cross marking the grave of his dog, Buba. Losing Buba is a wound that hasn't begun to heal. While Lane said he is happy to be alive, he wants to warn others so that they, too, don't suffer such a loss. His warning: don't use cheap lighters.
